2021

The GGB Awards are presented annually in honour of our founder, Sir George Grenfell Baines. Teams are invited to submit completed projects, which are judged by leaders from each of our professions and ranked according to their design quality and the level of interdisciplinary integration. The finalists are selected for their beautifully simple approach to design, where the clarity of integrated thinking reflects a deep understanding of people, place and time.

This year’s longlist comprised 14 submissions, showcasing interdisciplinary design across a range of sectors. Once subjected to the judging process, the initial longlist was distilled to a shortlist of eight projects. From this, one winner and three highly commended projects emerged.

2021 marked an important milestone in the history of the GGB Awards, the addition of our new Sustainability Award responding to the vital need to recognise and promote low impact and net zero projects. Faced with a selection of approaches to adaptive reuse, retrofit, active and passive energy-saving measures and biophilic principles, the resulting winner exemplifies sustainable design and innovation at BDP.
